Hello, 2020!

“Openness” and “Joy” – those are the 2 words that I’m going to try and focus on in 2020. Being open to new opportunities, seeing thing in different ways and a bit less judgment… and joy, because it’s far to easy to get sucked into criticism and how things are “not”.

If 2019 was status quo… My gut tells me that 2020 is going to be interesting. So, what does that mean for me and my bike(s)?

Try something new at least once a week. I’ve fallen into the habit of doing the same thing over and over… ok, maybe the mileage, route or intensity changes – but really, it’s the same thing. I’d like to try new things to see if they work. For example, I just ordered myself some waterproof socks for a ride next weekend. Simple, not complicated. Sometimes it’ll be new dirt, different nutrition, or a different riding technique… but the whole purpose is to mix it up.

Focus on the journey, not the destination. Sure, I’ll still do races and go on adventures with friends, but instead of all my energy going into the destination or the milestone, I’d like to focus how best to get there.

Be “open” to learn from others. My current learning method is to typically put my head down and figure it out on my own. Well… it doesn’t work all the time and is easily demonstrated by my jumping ability (it sucks!). Instead, I’d like to read more, watch more videos, see what other people are doing in the hopes that some of their knowledge will sink in. If you have suggestions – I’m all ears!

Now the hard parts comes… sticking to it!! Hope to see more of you in the New Year and that you follow along in my journey. It’s gonna be good!
